Spilt Milk: Joy the Baker
Welcome to Spilt Milk! Food is the most social thing we do. It also reveals much about our true character. We were inspired by the questionnaire made famous by Marcel Proust, the French essayist and novelist, and decided to create a set of questions we call Spilt Milk. We hope you enjoy this ongoing series on our blog.

Baker, cookbook author, & creator of the popular website Joy the Baker. Joy believes in the healing power of butter & sugar, & knows that everything is made better with a sprinkling of salt. Follow her on Foodily here.

How do you take your morning coffee?
I usually have black tea with honey and almond milk. I save coffee for special occasions.

Do you have a guilty pleasure?
 (food related please!)
Kosher hot dogs with spicy mustard and sauerkraut.

What’s your perfect meal?

Kosher hot dogs with spicy mustard and sauerkraut. I also LOVE my Dad’s tacos, which are only made more perfect by his company and infectious laugh.

What’s your worst kitchen disaster?

I used to make wedding cakes… I don’t make wedding cakes anymore. Enough said.

What’s the cooking skill you lack?

I lack the ability to barbecue.

Your favorite kitchen gadget?

I’m simple. I love my wooden spoon from France.

You wouldn’t be caught dead eating. . .

Taco Bell… unless it’s after 3am. Judge not.

Most memorable meal?

I shared a meal with friends at The French Laundry. Chef Keller’s restaurant is simultaneously extravagant and humble. The food tastes like it comes from the hearts of great chefs.

What’s your favorite spice?

I swoon for freshly grated nutmeg.

Midnight snack of choice?

Cold cereal.

What’s your food Mantra?
Let’s be better, always!
