This week the winners of the first nationwide C-CAP Meatless Monday Recipe Contest were announced!

Foodily Tastemakers Meatless Monday partnered with Careers through Culinary Arts Program (C-CAP), an amazing organization that provides scholarships, education and career opportunities in the culinary arts to underserved youth, for the competition.

This competition was a national search for the Top Tean Chefs! Teens in the C-CAP programs worked with their culinary arts instructors to create an original, meatless entree. Students were able to express their creativity while learning about the Meatless Monday campaign and the benefits of going meatless at the start of every week. Each school sent in one student recipe and, ultimately, seven finalists were selected and presented to a panel of judges.

I was thrilled to serve as judge and help select the three winners. Making it easy to find healthy recipes has always been important to us at Foodily, and there’s no better way to encourage families to eat well than by having kids involved in the actual cooking of the family meals.

The winners will receive scholarship money totaling $10,000.

First Prize: Nicole Caceres, John Marshall High School, Los Angeles, for Black Bean Mole Stew

Second Prize: Danielle Hill of Western Branch High School, Chesapeake, VA, for Lentil and Wild Rice Stuffed Zucchini

Third Prize: Mary Geyer of Lane Tech College Tech, and Gallery 37 AAEP, Chicago, for Red Coconut Curry with Tofu and Brown Rice

Congratulations to all the participants!
